Heather Young is a Canadian filmmaker in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. ==Early life and education== Originally from Saint John, New Brunswick, Young is a graduate of the University of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD). In 2009, Young's student short film ''Dog Girl'' was an official selection of the Atlantic Film Festival. Notably, broadcast rights for the film were purchased by the public channel France 3, allowing it to be aired on television in France. In 2011 her short film ''A Night Out'' premiered at the Montreal World Film Festival and went on to play at several others including the Los Angeles Women's International Film Festival. In 2013, Young received funding through the Atlantic Film Cooperative's Film5 program to make her short, ''Green'', with producer Brittany Amos. In 2014, Young wrote, directed, and shot the film ''Howard and Jean'' in her hometown. Young was the sole crew member. The film stars her mother and her mother's dog as the title characters. It was so far accepted into the Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival, the Atlantic Film Festival and the Vancouver International Film Festival in 2014.
